Trimper's
Amusement Park Washington DC
Location: S. First St. and Boardwalk, Ocean City, MD
Smell the popcorn and cotton candy, see all the dazzling
brightly lit rides as they swoosh past to the delight of their passengers. Welcome
to a special world, a world of excitement and fun that has
long been a tradition
in Ocean City. Established in 1887, Trimpers Rides has been creating fun and excitement
on Ocean City's Boardwalk for over 100 years. Trimpers has something for the entire
family.
There are over 100 rides, games and amusements for young
and old, but no matter what your age, you'll marvel at their newly restored 1902
Herschel-Spellman antique carousel featuring hand-carved wooded animals of every
imaginable shape and size. Their most popular outdoor ride is the famous Boomerang
and Loop Roller Coaster, "The Tidal Wave," but others get their share of ridership,
too, such as the Tilt-a-Whirl, Himalaya and ever-thrilling ferris wheels. Indoors
are the bumper cars, where, younger children can also enjoy airplane and motorcycle
rides and a kiddie carousel.
This tiny tot merry-go-round is housed in the same building
as the Trimper family's "heirloom" ride: a fully restored Herschell-Spillman carousel.
Bought by a Trimper family member in 1902 the carousel remains in use and is one
of the oldest in continuing operating in the United
States. This carousel contains
45 hand-carved wooden animals, three chariots, and one rocking chair. Most of the
animals are prancing horses, but others include a lion, long-necked giraffe, frog,
chicken, ostrich, pig, tiger, zebra, camel, antlered deer, a billy goat, a dog and
a dragon.
