DC United, Washington DC‘s professional soccer franchise, has brought the best of this sport to the capitol city. Winners of nine major domestic and international championships, the team has advanced the sport of soccer in the U.S. and helped it to develop more and more fans each year. The team began its journey in 1996, the same year that Major League Soccer began in the U.S. The DC United team plays at the Robert F. Kennedy Stadium, formerly the home of the Redskins and the Senators.
Though more than 4 decades old, this 56,000-seat stadium has earned its reputation as a great place to play soccer, hosting World Cup and Olympic qualifying games. It‘s easy to reach the stadium and enjoy a game of soccer either by car or on the metro.
