Smith & Wollensky’s slogan is “a steakhouse to end all arguments,” and the restaurant proceeds to back up the claim with USDA prime beef, dry-aged and butchered right on the premises. Hearty, mouth-watering main dishes include filet mignon, filet au poivre, prime rib and sirloin. Beyond beef, there are veal and lamb chops, chicken and seafood, and an array of side dishes – whipped potatoes, creamed spinach and the like, along with plenty of salad and appetizer choices. There’s an extensive wine collection and a bevy of desserts, including something called Drunken Donuts. It’s a high-end restaurant that doesn’t take itself too seriously, offering an unusual blend of atmospheres: quiet sections for business lunches or dinners, and others that bustle with the chatter and good cheer of families with kids. This could be the place to introduce your child to his or her first “real” steak. There’s a patriotic theme throughout Smith & Wollensky, and the main dining room features cream-colored walls, lots of brass, polished wood floors and plenty of interesting (and sometimes whimsical) antiques and artifacts. Patio dining is available.
