Anacostia
Museum Washington DC
Location: 1901 Fort Place, SE, Washington, DC
The museum encourages the collection, protection, and
preservation of materials that reflect the history and traditions of families, organizations,
individuals, and communities. The Anacostia Museum is responsible for the acquisition,
care and preservation of 6,000 objects of a collection that dates to the early 1800's.
This includes works of art, archeological material, furniture, photographs, audio
tapes, video and musical instruments. The Museum is also involved in contemporary
urban issues, including health care, transportation, housing and more. In existence
for more than 30 years, the museum continues to involve community residents in its
cultural documentation and preservation, facilitating the need for project planning
and execution. It is located inside the Arts and Industries Building in the National
Mall and it is part of the Smithsonian Institute.
