Washington
DC's Department of State
Location: 2201 C St., NW, Washington, DC
Washington DC's Department of State, responsible for numerous
tasks from distributing passports and visas to a number of complicated international
issues, offers tours of its beautiful Diplomatic Reception Rooms.
These tours are suitable for children over the age of
12. These rooms, used for official purposes, are the places where the country's
leaders entertain foreign diplomats and American dignitaries at posh luncheons,
dinners, or other special events.
Considered to be a fine arts tour, the opportunity to
travel through these rooms will especially appeal to those who love fine decorative
furniture of museum caliber and wonderful artwork, mostly from the late 18th century.
These tours are held three times each day and must be pre-arranged. The tour is
quite popular and bookings fill up as far as 90-120 days in advance, so visitors should plan ahead.
