Washington D.C.'s Capitol Building is one of the most recognizable landmarks in all the world. It has housed the Senate and House of Representatives for more than two centuries, though during those years it was burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored.

Approximately 5 million visitors tour the Capitol each year, enjoying not only the grandeur of the building but also the wonderful history and artworks inside the walls. Families touring the building and the Capitol Complex will find historical paintings, statues, and relief sculptures, many by some of the best artists in the history of America.

The Capitol grounds are equally as impressive and offer a great wide-open area for kids to enjoy a little fresh air after a long day at Washington's many museum. Here you'll see fountains, gardens, monuments, and even a carillon. Each year, the Capitol Christmas tree sits here, enjoyed by visitors from throughout the world. The Capitol is open for public tours every day from 9 am until 4:30 pm, except Sunday.

Free tickets are distributed on a first-come basis. Because this is a government building, tours can be suspended at any time due to heightened security alerts.
