Washington
DC's Bureau of Engraving and Printing
Location: 14th & C Sts, SW, Washington, DC
Washington DC's Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington,
DC is quite a sight! Visitors thrill at the sight of stacks and stacks of paper
currency as it's produced for distribution throughout the United States. Each year,
the BEP produces billions of dollars in bank notes and the opportunity to see how
it's done is quite fascinating.
The free tours, conducted daily, give visitors a chance
to follow the banknote from it's beginnings as a blank piece of paper until if is
finished, cut, and ready for your wallet. (Tell your kids that they don't give samples
at the end of the tour!) If you're planning on visiting the Bureau of Engraving
and Printing, plan ahead as families will need tickets during the peak seasons of
March through August. Also be aware that, as a secure government building, the bureau
is subject to closure
by the Dept. of Homeland Security with no notice.
