DC Claude Moore Colonial Farm
Location: 6310 Georgetown Pike • McLean, VA
Washington DC Claude Moore Colonial Farm, in suburban
McLean, VA, is a working farm that every member of the family will enjoy. Visitors
will meet the Farm Family (actually staff and volunteers) and can participate in
hands-on farm related activities suitable for all ages. Families enjoy self-guided
tours of the farm as they travel about 3/4 of a acre around the premises, viewing
traditional farm animals and helping with chores.
Try your hand at weeding the garden, hoeing the fields,
carding wool, or mixing batter for hoecakes. The staff is dressed in costumes from
the year 1771 and all machinery and farm tours are from the colonial period. A few
times each year, the Claude Moore Colonial Farm hosts a "Market Fair" where visitors can buy colonial items, enjoy period food and drink, play colonial games, and listen
to 18th century music.
Other times of the year, the GateHouse Shop offers merchandise
including jewelry, books, games, toys, collectibles, postcards, and tee shirts.
Admission is affordable and families should allow about an hour for their visit.
