Washington DC Chinatown is located in an area east of downtown that was actually first settled by Germans immigrants. Located along H and I Streets between 6th and 8th, the area became populated with Chinese immigrants in the 1930s. These new residents decorated their neighborhood with beautiful ornamental gates and other architecture peculiar to their country of origin, much of which you can still view today.
