The Annual Pow Wow is coming back to DC. Take your family on a journey back into history during the NMAI’s Annual three-day Pow Wow and experience some of the major aspects of Native Indian cultures.
Learn about Native Americans by visiting the current exhibits at the NMAI and by watching more than 100 Native artisans as they showcase fine art, jewelry, sculpture and pottery, all expressions of the Indian heritage, dating back hundreds of years.
After a lunch of indigenous cuisines at the ""Mitsitam"" Native Foods Café – “mitsitam” means ""Let’s eat!"" in the Native language of the Delaware and Piscataway peoples -- be on hand for the colorful “Grand Entry,” beginning Friday and Saturday at noon and 6 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
Then plan to be in the audience as scores of Native American dancers and drummers of all ages as they perform ages old songs and dances representative of every tribe and every corner of North America, from the young boy’s grass dance to the women’s fancy shawl and jingle styles, and compete for more than $100,000 in prizes and cash awards.
It’ll be a trip into history you’ll never forget. |
