The Pageant of Peace is one of those experiences a family will remember for years to come; it could and should become a family tradition. The National Christmas Tree is a 40-foot Colorado blue spruce brought to the Ellipse from Pennsylvania.

But that is just the beginning of this extraordinary event. Every December, a Pageant of Peace is held that begins with the official lighting ceremony on December 1.
The tree is then lighted every night throughout the month for families to enjoy. Opening ceremony activities are a night unto themselves, featuring musical performers and beloved national figures for the public’s enjoyment. But any night of the Pageant is a perfect one for your family.

Each evening, area musical groups perform for your entertainment. And this year, volunteers from all the states, territories and the District of Columbia have given generously of their time and talents to design and create tree ornaments that symbolize their heritage and culture.
Stroll with your kids through these diverse trees that showcase our great country, and you’ll find yourself giving your kids a great history lesson and entertaining them at the same time. This walk is called the Pathway to Peace, and serves as the best message of all during this holiday season.
