Kalorama, Greek for ""beautiful view,"" was an estate occupied by a diplomat in 1807. Today, the neighborhood is Embassy Row, elegant and diverse, a place where cultures intermingle and residences are each unique.
On September 18, you can tour a number of these luxurious homes filled with the history of our diplomatic relations with other countries. The tour benefits the Woodrow Wilson House, Washington’s only presidential museum and a National Trust Historic Site.
Enjoy this rare glimpse into the lives of such luminaries as the Ambassador of Afghanistan, who is not only representing a newly democratic and free nation, but also a newly restored residence.

The elegant home of the Ambassador of Austria is featured on the tour, and offers a lush, peaceful garden and pool that cannot be seen from the street.
You can also meander through the former home of Madame Chiang Kai-shek while in exile, now housing the Ambassador of Iceland.
A noted architectural landmark, the home of Columbia’s ambassador, is a high note on the tour, and last on the roster is the home of the Ambassador of Cyprus, which was once owned by Frank Sinatra. As you tour these rarified domiciles, you will surely feel and hear history calling to you. |
