The
Garden of Lights shines in all of its magnificent glory as the
four seasons of the gardens are presented in illumination by
more than 650,000 miniature twinkling lights in celebration of
its 10th Anniversary.
More than 40,000
visitors come back each year to enjoy this holiday tradition
of strolling outdoors along an easily accessible one-half mile walk among the
imaginative displays. Perennial favorites such as the kaleidoscope caterpillar,
the croaking bullfrog, and Nessie the smoke-breathing Loch Ness monster are here
to greet young and old alike.
On your walk you’ll
watch a gardener sowing seeds in early spring while a hungry bunny waits nearby
for a snack, or you might get caught in an unexpected summer thunderstorm and
rain shower while smelling the blooming flowers.
Autumn is the time
to see busy animals darting about gathering food in preparation for winter; and
as the nights grow longer, you might encounter the Northern Lights shimmering
over an Inuit campfire that will surely brighten the spirits. Upon entering the
conservatory you’ll watch with delight as several miniature electric trains
weave through the annual winter display of poinsettias and other flowering
plants on their way to visit scale model reproductions of historic Montgomery
County sites.
Afterwards, come inside the Visitors Center and warm up with some hot chocolate
or cider and other delicious treats for purchase while you listen to local
musicians perform. The Marylandica Gift Shop will be open during the show for
any holiday shopping needs. On your drive home, you’ll be
planning your next visit back to the Garden of Lights!
