Overview
Winner of seven Tony Awards during its run on Broadway in the 1980s, Evita is the story of Eva Peron, the exuberant, charismatic wife of former Argentine dictator Juan Peron.
| A staunch supporter of the working class, the musical
tells the story of how Eva Peron charmed a nation with her bubbly
personality and sincere love for the people of Argentina. The score of Evita is written by the amazing Andrew Lloyd Weber in collaboration with lyricist Tim Rice. The duo is best known for their musicals such as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Jesus Christ, Superstar. |
The music is full of
pop, jazz, and Latin influences and keeps audiences swaying to its lively beat.
Evita's best-known song, however, is the moving ballad "Don't Cry for Me,
Argentina," popularized by Broadway's first Evita, Patti Lupone.
The musical is appropriate for all ages but older youth will better understand
the politically-charged story line.
